m-i-n-n-i-e m-o-r-k-i-e

Just thought I'd let all of you know I made it out alive. Over the weekend I was most definitely not my spunky self. I got to catch up on my sleep, be carried around like the baby I am, and eat extra treats. My mom calls me minnie I think because I'm so tiny and cute. She picked up OPI's special Minnie Mouse addition of polishes, and is currently wearing Nothin' Mousie 'Bout It. All the shades are ultra girly, and perfect for summer. I can't wait to take long walks and run around like crazy on Saturday.

stay, my american baby.

Holidays remind me of home and family. I'm glad I got to spend time with both over the Memorial Day long weekend. We had plenty of drinks and good food, and welcomed home two of my cousins from college. I can barely believe they're about to be 21 this summer. The scenic shots were taken from my car... don't tell the police I didn't stop. Hope you all enjoyed your weekend as much as I did.

everything I learned about breaking hearts I learned from you

Personally, I think I look a little chunky monkey in this outfit. Vanity aside every Tom, Dick, & Harry told me how cute I looked today so I succumb to documenting it. First up is a boy's youth Ralph Lauren shirt that I am obsessed with. Love the colors, love the plaid, love the fit. I tend to steer away from the traditional fitted button downs Ralph puts out for women so this is a happy compromise for me.

Next the silver beaded belt is another Anthro sale snag. I've thrown this into the mix in a ton of different outfits in the past. I was even so daring to suggest my friend to add it to her new years eve get up. I just think it adds a lot without having to say too much.

After that is the periwinkle lace skirt that really broke the bank at a staggering $30. Gotta love that francesca's it's really been a god send for work appropriate clothes. I've gotten a lot of use out of it pairing it with reds, navys, tans, and greys.

Lastly, no outfit of mine seems to be complete without a stack of Alex & Ani's bangles. Can't say enough how much I love this line. The bracelets make for great gift giving go tos... hint hint, wink wink June 14th is right around the corner friends & fam.

you'll change your mind come monday.

Here's a few things I'm into right now...

Accent nails.

Let me tell you girls nothing seems to annoy men more than when one nail is painted different than the rest of the hand. Their brains just can't comprehend why we would do such a thing. It's because of this proven fact that I continue to embrace it. Plus why limit yourself to just one color.

Spring Nail Varnish.

I love anything from Essie for spring. So many of them can mix together to create a fun mani/pedi. The shades that are in my rotation include: Mint Candy Apple, Sure Shot, Need A Vacation & She's Picture Perfect. Chanel's summer colors are named after some beautiful months including: April, May & June (pictured above).

Sparkly gold accessories.

Some of my favorite accessories for spring/summer include big gold jewels. I love the pave link bracelet from JCrew. It totally reminds me of something that Run DMC would've eaten with a spoon back in their glory. My Michael Kors watch is one of the first chronograph watches he came out with. Mine has held up really well, and I highly recommend it to any girl who's on the face about them. The little gold earrings were a gift from my mom. They remind me of little disco balls.

Fancy Fishnets.

Excuse my ghetto camera phone shot, but I love these Missoni tights. Actually I love tights period the end. With the welcomed warm weather I have to forego the my go to opaques for these fishnets. The ones I'm wearing are a pretty shade of navy, and have a fun texture to them which is a nod to the signature knits Missoni rolls out.

S'mores.

Chocolate, graham cracker, mallows... what's not to love about this summer staple.

you can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness

I'm about to use this post as a soap box for what's been going on with me, and how I've been feeling since this year began. So, if you were looking for an outfit idea or my suggestions on which beauty products you should snag avert your eyes. All others don't say I didn't warn you.

Since January I've been going thru some MAJOR growing pains. I knew back in December that there were certain things I had to change about myself in this upcoming year. Things that I was sick of sitting around bitching about, problems that weren't fixing themselves, and to be frank removing bullshit that wasn't necessary in my life. So far, 5 months in I think I've done a pretty decent job of cleaning house.

-quit my job
-ended a major relationship
-cut out all toxic friendships

I might sound dramatic but it's really helped me to be a better and happy version of me. Up until this point I had just accepted a lot of what was going on in my life. I'm a selfless person and it tends to bite me back pretty hard if I'm not being mindful. I've gained a lot in shifting my priorities since January.

-new jobs, yes ladies and gents jobs! I have a full time gig in an office working 9-5, and several freelance visual jobs around the city to keep my busy and paid
-mindy, sounds corny but that little puppy has made me 100% happier
-strengthening old friendships

I really think removing all the junk has made room for more beneficial things. The only part of my former job that I was ever passionate about I still get to experience on a weekly basis. I love getting to be creative, and I'm really grateful that certain people have come to appreciate my style. Having another factor outside of myself to care for has done nothing but made me more responsible and aware of how I'm spending my time. The friendships that have lasted thru all the hogwash are so much more meaningful to me than the way I viewed them at the end of college.

There's still some factors in my life that need work.

-my living space
-settling my priorities

The living space I've got pretty much down. I know these are my last few months in South Boston. I'm sad about it, but also really ready to leave here. This was the first place I came after I graduated so I grew up a shitload here. I experienced some of the best and worst parts of my early 20's here so it does deserve some credit. I also know that I've outgrown the area. I'm just not the same girl who moved here 3 years ago.

Which brings me to my final thought. I know this song is totally played out right now as its streaming all over kiss 108 as I write this. There's truly something to blasting Goyte's "Somebody I Use to Know." I've been getting out a lot of my tense thoughts and feelings to this song lately. I mean half makes me think this is great for every time I feel burnt out by someone or something, and the other half wonders maybe I'm just somebody that I use to know.

twix brownies

As a bonafide pinterest fanatic I always love checking out the awesome recipes people pin. This one for Twix Brownies instantly caught my attention as it combines two of my favorite sweets in one. I will give forewarning this treat is extremely addicting and a little messy.

Check out this recipe on my baking addiction, and remember don't say I didn't warn you.

the mork report

Hey friends it's me Mindy here. This Thursday I'm going to be spayed, mom's sort of nervous, but I'm sure everything will go smoothly. We've decided to share pictures of me as a baby, cause let's face it I'm amorkable. Sometimes it's hard to remember being so tiny, and soon I'll be all grown up.

The video at the end if the first time I ever met mom. Man, was I ever jazzed. Hope you all enjoy it.

when i want to run away i drive off in my car

I have a real love affair for clothes that look like they could fall apart at any moment. I picked up this spider web Moth sweater at an Anthro sale last summer.
Every time I wear it I get a compliment on how comfy it looks. I bought the sweater several sizes larger than I typically wear and layer an Elizabeth and James slip underneath. I love the relaxed just rolled out of bed vibe that this piece brings. It's that inner Stevie Nicks boho girl style that I love to add to my mix.

i walk into the room dripping in gold

It's a girl's priority to indulge in great products. Over the past few years I have become such a fan of Oribe. Legendary fashion designer Tom Ford came up with the scents behind the product line which smell out of this world. A great hairspray really is worth the money if you ask me. There's nothing I hate more than when your hair feels stiff because of spray. The moisturizing cream by Oribe is awesome, and leave my hair feeling like silk.

My latest manicure is a combo or etsy and sephora's 18k top coat. The top coat is a little pricey, but I think it's worth its weight in gold. It adds something special to a basic looking mani. You can find the top coat here.

I'll leave you with this jam I can't stop listening to....

next thing we're touching.

First thing's first, I cut ladies and gentlemen I've cut my hair. I won't lie at the moment I'm sort of in mourning as I had been growing my hair out for the past three years now. I know I'm going to miss it for a little bit, but to be frank it didn't to go.

Next topic I love colored pants for spring. They inject a nice pop of color to any outfit. I suggest to keep everything else in the outfit very basic. Navy, tan, white, creme, or black help to to balance out the loudness of a bright pair of pants.

Lastly, I love my newest watch. I got her on esty and she was handmade. The other jewels I added to this outfit include: star earrings from Anthro, my blue hampton David Yurman, and vintage jade beaded necklaces.

they stare at me, while I stare at you.

This dress for me screams hey let's party which is exactly what I'm looking for in an outfit for a bachelorette party. I can't help but to share this dress even though the event isn't until the end of June, but I'll keep the color a secret.  Can't wait to wear this while I wave goodbye to one of my college roommates single life.

Tuesday, May 15, 2012

maybe carry on just a little bit longer & I'll try to give you what you need.

A few things making me happy. Flowers from my boss after a particularly difficult day more than made up for the headache. Plus I love how bright and fun the colors are for spring.

I got this card from my niece for Mother's Day. She is one of the sweetest parts of my life, and it was nice to be thought of. The candle, Capri Blue, is my absolute fave scent ever. It fills the room with a clean flowery smell that's inviting not overwhelming.

Lastly, I'm really enjoying the new one from Dave Matthews "Mercy". The song is mellow, and I'll be enjoying it on hot summer nights with large glasses of wine.

people always say my style is wild, you've got gall you've got guile

My sincerest apologies for my absence in blogging last week. I was spending way more time in the car that I had ever hoped to. As a result I got all these amazing shots. I really do love the landscape of Boston- the mix of old and new architecture. Sitting in traffic certainly paid off I'd say.

Also, blame my lack of blogging on that full moon. I will say it made for a few interesting nights out.
